All cars manufactured after 1996 have a standard OBD II socket and it is this part of the car that is involved during chip tuning. In the past ECU remapping was used exclusively for race cars to improve their performance in the tracks. But as the demand for automotive upgrades have increased over the years, chip tuning has gone beyond the race track and are now finding their way into the mainstream automobiles.

It also solves other driving problems such as flat spots and engine unresponsiveness. This way, acceleration is faster and drivers gain better control of the car’s speed and manoeuvrability. But of course, ECU remapping was made to add extra performance to your engine and if you would chose to use that option, then there is always added fuel consumption. In fact, studies have even shown that remapped engines are more efficient in consuming fuel. And when it comes to your car’s warranty, chip tuning does not involve any physical engine alterations so the upgrade won’t be physically visible at all!
